The European Union might “respond swiftly and decisively” in response to what it calls “unjustified” visa bans issued by the US on five Europeans involved in combating digital hatred and disinformation, a European Commission spokesperson stated.
European Leaders Condemn US Move as ‘Intimidation’
Officials from Europe including the French president accused the US administration of “bullying and threats”, after the travel bans targeted figures that were at the heart of efforts to introduce laws regulating American tech companies.
“For too long, ideologues in Europe have led coordinated campaigns to coerce US companies to punish American viewpoints they oppose,” wrote a senior US official in a social media post. “The current administration will no longer tolerate such actions of censorship beyond its borders.”

Germany, Spain, the UK and a chorus of EU officials supported France in criticizing the move.
The restrictions were imposed on Tuesday against an ex-European commissioner who helped draft the bloc’s Digital Services Act (DSA), as well as four anti-disinformation campaigners, from Germany and the United Kingdom.
